Description

Deeper than Birth, Life, and Death: honoring the cycles of life and releasing from their grip.

With Jesse Maceo Vega-Frey

Saturday, November 3, 2018

The Bodhi Tree, Honolulu, Hawai'i

Our relationship to the cycles of existence are reflected in the arising and passing of each moment, of each breath. Reflection on arising, on being, and on death are some of the most important meditation practices encouraged by the Buddha. Join Jesse for a day-long meditation retreat, dedicated mostly to silent practice, where we will take time to explore our relationship to these realities and learn to find peace within their fluctuations.

We will create a collective altar in honor of our loved ones who have passed away. Please bring small photographs or objects of remembrance to help us build this sacred space together. We will take special time at the end of the day to attune to our capacity to share the goodness and force of all that has passed before us toward all that is yet to come.

Lunch will be pot-luck style and we invite all participants to contribute a dish that is a reflection of their personal histories or cultural heritage.

Jesse Maceo Vega-Frey is the resident teacher for Vipassana Hawai’i and teaches around the world. Jesse was a co-founder of The Stone House, a center for spiritual life and social justice in Mebane, NC, and was a board member of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship for several years. Listen to some of his Dhamma talks and meditation instructions here or read a recent article in Turning Wheel, the online magazine of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, hereFor more information about the teachers, click here.

Teacher dana - In accordance with tradition, all Vipassana Hawai’i internationally respected teachers offer their guidance and teachings free of charge and are supported through the freely-offered generosity of students and supporters. Costs associated with retreats cover the expenses associated with food, lodging, and administration but not teacher time, training, effort, or energy. We believe that this commitment helps keep the purity of the teachings alive and thriving, as it has for millennia. They do not collect salaries in keeping with the time-honored tradition of sharing openly the chance for peace. This allows us to pass on our direct facility costs and keep our registration fees as low as possible. As a result, we strive to give back in monetary gratitude so that they may continue their endeavors and share their wisdom.

Please note our Cancellation Policy:

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to the retreat: We will refund all fees less PayPal fees.
