Unraveling Our Emotions through the

Practice of Loving-Kindness, Mindfulness, and Insight Meditation

A Vipassana retreat with Bhante Buddharakkhita

Palolo Zen Center, Honolulu, HI

January 20 - 28, 2017

Would you like to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of emotions and how they impact your life and the people around you? Do you want to learn how to turn difficult emotions like fear, anger, and self-criticism into opportunities for courage, loving-kindness, and acceptance? If so, then this retreat is for you.

Bhante will discuss over a dozen skillful ways of handling difficult emotional states. He will offer instructions on Loving-Kindness, Mindfulness, and Insight Meditation.

The retreat will include guided meditations, question and answer sessions, group meetings, and meditation interviews.

Ven. Bhante Buddharakkhita was born in Uganda, Africa. He first encountered Buddhism in 1990, while studying in India. After living in Asia for seven years, Bhante decided to continue his meditation practice at Insight Meditation Society, Barre, Massachusetts. In November 2002 he received higher ordination by his Preceptor the late Venerable  Sayadaw U Silananda at Tathagata Meditation Center, California. He continued his meditation practice and teacher training under the guidance of Ven. Bhante Gunaratana for eight years at the Bhavana Society, West Virginia. Author of Planting Dhamma Seeds, founder of the Uganda Buddhist Centre, Uganda, and the Spiritual Adviser of Flowering Lotus Meditation Center, Mississippi, Bhante teaches meditation in the United States, Europe and worldwide.

Dana for the teacher is highly recommended. In Pali, the traditional language of the Buddha’s teachings, dana means “generosity.” It is the very heart of the culture that has carried the Buddha’s teachings over the centuries and is the foundation of our organizational ethics.

In accordance with tradition, all Vipassana Hawai’i teachers offer their teachings free of charge and are supported through the freely-offered generosity of students and supporters. Costs associated with retreats cover the expenses associated with food, lodging, and administration but not teacher time, training, effort, or energy. We believe that this commitment helps keep the purity of the teachings alive and thriving, as it has for millennia.
