With her vast knowledge & experience, she has taught hawaiiana to thousands of people, in all walks of life, for over 30 years. Hālau ʻŌhiʻa was formed by Kekuhi with the goal of both fostering a working knowledge of Native Hawaiian perspectives on resources and resource management, as well as enhancing relationships among members of the resources community – managers and staff, community members, researchers and the resources themselves. Hālau ʻŌhiʻa focuses on establishing and deepening familial relationships to the world around us, and aims to enhance the ways we engage with our ʻāina (landscape) community and kanaka (human) community. This program provides us opportunities to learn and practice Hawaiʻi lifeways (language, story, ritual, music, dance, poetry, chant, geography, family life, genealogy, the arts, spirituality, and many other aspects), helps us to become more familiar and connected to the places and communities in which we work, strengthens and grows relationships and partnerships among members and organizations of the natural resources and conservation community, and continually encourages us to think about our conservation jobs from a transformed understanding of who we are and what our role is in maintaining these relationships.
